  1. Determine the need for a tutor.

  3. Schedule in-person interviews for the tutors you feel may be a good match for your needs.
  4. Ask for the references of other satisfied clients you can speak with.
  5. Check the tutor’s references.
  6. Interview, in person, each tutor.
  7. After identifying the tutor who best meets your child’s needs, discuss contract issues, payment, and other logistical issues.
  8. Agree to enter a tutoring relationship.
  9. Begin the tutoring.
  10. Monitor the progress. Discuss any on-going issues with the tutor, and ask for regular progress reports.
